How do I choose a good builder?

We recommend you:

  • Don't hire someone just because of a cheap price - go for quality and value for money

  • Get references from family and friends and look at reviews

  • Use accredited businesses who have the backing of professional trade bodies and are adequately insured.

How much will my extension/renovation cost?

There are four main things that affect the cost of extensions and renovations:

  • Size

  • Complexity

  • Nature of finish (basic, standard, luxury)

  • Characteristics of the land

Only after considering all these factors can specific price guides be given. 

This is why we arrange an initial meeting with you at the property to talk through the proposed alterations and finishes.

How much does it cost to build a new home?

Many factors can drive the cost of a new home such as square footage, finish materials and building regulations, just to name a few.  Contact us to find out how we can help you with working out the cost of your new build.

How does the material and design selection process work?

You can be as involved as you would like.  You can select everything from your kitchen to interior door hardware, exterior finish and colour of your light switches.  We can also provide recommendations based on style and budget to complete your home.

How does the weather affect the building process?

We aim to build all year round and even during the harsh winter months we find windows of opportunity where progress can be made. Concrete, stone driveways and masonry work however, cannot be constructed during extreme cold, but these can be deferred without causing too much disruption to the overall schedule.

How does Disley Builders make sure that the process is easy for us?

Our simple, open and honest process provides the framework for a smooth transition from day one to completion.  We will guide you through choices and remind you of essential selection due dates.  Our experienced team will advise you along the way and our communication lines are always open to make the project as stress free as possible.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we have Public Liability and Employers Liability insurance.

Are you a member of a trade body?

Yes, we are a member of the FMB (Federation of Master Builders)

How many years have you been in business?

Phil Disley, Managing Director, has been working in the construction industry for over 15 years.  He ran a brickwork, groundwork and landscaping company with a business partner for 10 years, before branching out on his own to start Disley Builders Ltd.  Phil has also completed a few property development projects in his spare time.

What are your payment terms?

We would agree a schedule of staged payments throughout the project with the final instalment due only when the work is complete and you are happy with the result.

Will you minimise disruption for me and my neighbours?

We are often complimented on our polite and conscientious manner when it comes to working on our clients’ homes and make sure we minimise any disruption to neighbours.  We believe in keeping good lines of communication and maintaining good relations with your neighbours.

What are your current lead times?

Our lead times change depending on how busy we are, but they are typically around 3 - 6 months.  Please contact us to find out current lead times.
